Using Philosophy to make decisions in a Business

Philosophy can be interpreted in many ways. The way I like to look at it is as a mindset; a way to see the world and make decisions. When googled, philosophy means, “the study of the fundamental nature of knowledge, reality, and existence, especially when considered as an academic discipline.” While this is the literal meaning of Philosophy, the way to apply it to the real world, is to formulate decisions based on knowledge, reality, and existence

Business thrive when all parties are content with the decisions being made. These decisions should be made with an ethical code. As a business owner, you should create a code of ethics that clearly aligns with the philosophical principles. This code should fall under something called ethical framework. This framework understands the moral implications that a decision will cause, whether it affects your customers, employees, investors or even the entire community.

Thinking about decisions in a philosophical reasoning can help you think beyond immediate profits and consider all the long-term win/losses. A philosophical mindset while making decisions can also help you contemplate whether this is a smart decision keeping your business’s sustainability and reputation in mind.
